Safety and AwarenessSponsored by

ABATE believes it’s better to Educate not Legislate! For riders this includes rider training classes to give them the skills to operate safely and avoid trouble and accidents when possible. For drivers this includes motorcycle awareness training. Learning to share the roads with motorcycles and the simple things they can do to avoid accidents with motorcycles.

We do not believe it is the governments job to continually create new

restrictive laws to protect us from ourselves!

ABATE of Michigan has been responsible for many good laws being enacted and support all common sense approaches to legislation in regards to motorcycles and motorcycle safety. We just believe it is better to educate rather than legislate which has actually proven to be successful in many states! States that support driver and rider training programs have a much lower accident and fatality rate than states that do not!

On this page we will try to keep you up to date with any information related to safety and motorcycle awareness programs we here in Region 5 are involved in and also welcome any idea’s you may have to promote Motorcycle Awareness!

Currently we are trying to get Motorcycle Awareness PSA’s (Public Service Announcement) played on local radio stations.

About 4 years ago we sent out letters and safety video’s to all business and schools that do driver training for the high schools. We made 30 VHS safety video’s and sent most of them out. We also followed up with all those organizations with a follow up letter offering our services for FREE to teach a Motorcycle Awareness program to their new drivers and we never received anything in response!

About the same time we had a PSA made by the Yooper’s for the ABATE organization about Motorcycle Awareness. It was played for most of the month of May that year!

May is National Motorcycle Awareness Month

WMRR Radio and Any O’Riley worked with Region 5 to promote motorcycle awareness month in Western Michigan and with their help we had public service announcements running all of the month of May and  to continue throughout the summer!

2010 Awareness campaign

Region 5 members voted to give 2 Look Twice Save a life signs to each Area Coordinator to distribute to businesses in their perspective counties. This will get the signs out in prominent locations.
